Git-R-Done Gets It Started

Ben has always been the git-er-done kid. If he decided he wanted to do something, it was pretty difficult  persuading him otherwise.  As a little boy he’d tell me that when he grew up he was going to build a house that was 8’x8’x8’. He figured that’d be big enough for his woodstove and his bed. What else would he need? In the meantime, he built many forts as practice for this grown-up home of his dreams. From a hole in the ground to slats nailed up a tree to a stilted house with glass windows but no walls Ben has grown up. He’s ready to build his own house. More than ready, he’s doing it. And, he’s decided that 8’x8’x8’ may be just a tad bit too small. And he’s decided indoor plumbing might be nice. Also, a kitchen and maybe a living room. And possibly more than a single size bunk.

Here’s a progression of Ben’s building ideas and skills:

Fort One - The Hole in the Ground Very sturdy, cozy, great protection when playing paint ball. Not so good in the rain.

Fort Two - The Tree House Quick, flexible (in that in blows in breeze), cozy, still not so good in the rain.

Fort Three - Plasti-Home Good size, weather-proof. Can't tell by the single photo, but this "fort" was basically a house. It had a kitchen, dining room, living room, bedrooms, balconies - however, it was in town - too far away from dinner.

Fort Four - House on Stilts Now you see real potential - this one had windows! Not much else, but the windows are pretty cool.

The Raft - House on the Water This I think was Ben's favorite of all his "forts". He loves rafting, especially on his own, carefully built craft. Just don't too close to the edge.
